Cycling as a tool for a green transition of the land-based transport in the Nordic region.
The Nordic Cycle Power Network is a two-year project which will primarily aim to activate a knowledge sharing network among municipal and regional planners working to improve conditions for cycling. The network will identify measures that can be implemented in Nordic regions to facilitate and enable a significant increase in biking trips to replace car use and drive down CO2 emissions from land-based transport.
Knowledge sharing across countries is an essential element in using the bicycle to strengthen the green transition for the transport sector in the Nordic countries.
Nordic Cycle Power Network intent is to empower municipalities to increase and sustain a higher cycling modal share by addressing the challenge of currently high Co2 emissions caused by motorised vehicles.
Central Objectives:
- Address the discrepancy between existing knowledge about cycling measures and their implementation.
- Promote cycling as the primary mode of transport in participating regions and municipalities.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing among Nordic network planners.
- Provide regional planners with actionable input to boost cycling.
- Inspire other European countries facing similar challenges.
- Implement new cycling infrastructure and pro-cycling policies.
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from land-based transport.
