EIT Urban Mobility and the European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the period 2026–2028, reinforcing their shared mission to accelerate the transition towards sustainable, safe and people-centred urban mobility across Europe.

Under the MoU, EIT Urban Mobility and ECF will collaborate on a range of initiatives that promote cycling and active mobility as central components of Europe’s transport and climate strategies. Areas of cooperation include knowledge exchange, policy insights, joint project participation, advocacy, data collaboration, and joint communication efforts.

Key elements of the agreement include:

  • Mutual exchange of knowledge and best practices in active mobility and integrated transport planning.
  • Network connection between ECF’s broad coalition of cities, regions and NGOs and EIT Urban Mobility’s ecosystem of cities, industry and research partners.
  • Joint participation in European programmes such as Horizon Europe and CEF, where cycling and active mobility are strategic priorities.
  • Visibility and advocacy cooperation, ensuring cycling maintains a strong position within the broader sustainable mobility agenda.
  • Co-authored publication during the 2026–2028 period on a key European urban mobility topic combining policy and data-driven perspectives.
  • Data collaboration on active mobility dashboards, cycling safety indicators and bicycle parking analytics.

Laurianne Krid, CEO of the European Cyclists’ Federation, said:
This renewed partnership with EIT Urban Mobility reflects our shared belief that cycling is not just a mode of transport — it’s a driver of healthier, safer and more resilient cities. By combining ECF’s policy expertise with EIT Urban Mobility’s innovation and data capabilities, we can help accelerate the shift towards truly people-centred mobility systems across Europe.”

Willem Fredrik Metzelaar, Head of Hub West EIT Urban Mobility:
Our collaboration with the European Cyclists’ Federation accelerates the shift towards active, safe and sustainable mobility across Europe. By joining forces with the European Cyclists’ Federation, we strengthen Europe’s transition to active, inclusive, safe and low-carbon urban mobility.
