The European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) urges all stakeholders and supporters of cycling to contribute to the European Commission’s
public consultation on the forthcoming EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy, open until 12 September.
ECF advocates for the inclusion of cycling tourism as a strategic priority within the EU’s Sustainable Tourism framework, recognising its proven contributions to economic resilience, regional development, public health, and environmental sustainability. Acknowledging cycling tourism, particularly through initiatives such as
EuroVelo, as a key segment can strengthen the competitiveness and long-term viability of the European tourism sector.
To facilitate informed participation, ECF has published a
policy paper outlining key arguments and recommended responses, with a focus on enhancing the visibility and support for cycling tourism in EU policy. The consultation presents a timely and strategic opportunity to secure formal recognition for cycling tourism, building on its reference in the
European Declaration on Cycling of April 2024.
We strongly encourage cycling organisations, tourism stakeholders and anyone interested to submit their input and to promote engagement across their respective networks. Collective action at this stage can significantly enhance the impact and future positioning of cycling tourism within EU-level strategic planning.
