We are excited to announce the renewal of our partnership with Novo Nordisk and its Cities for Better Health Initiative, building on our shared vision of bringing societal changes to promote healthy living through an increase in physical activity with an emphasis on active mobility through cycling.
Building on previous years of successful collaboration, such as the 2023 report on
Cycling for healthier and more inclusive communities, and the 2024 Cities for Better Health Travel Grant for Velo-city Ghent, ECF and Cities for Better Health (Novo Nordisk) are working together on towards common objectives: to contribute to increased physical activity, better health and increased equity and inclusion in cycling; and to Identify and support scalable solutions for fostering better health through cycling.
As part of the new agreement, we are organising the
second edition of the Cities for Better Health Travel Grant for Velo-city, with the objective of increasing geographic diversity and inclusion. The 2025 edition of the grant looks to facilitate and support the attendance of conference speakers from developing economies outside of Europe.

A new and exciting activity is the upcoming
Healthy Cycling Challenge - a global call for innovative, ready-to-implement initiatives that promote healthy, sustainable, and inclusive urban neighbourhoods through cycling. From April to June 2025, registered non-profit civic society organisations and local government authorities worldwide will be invited to submit their proposals for scalable community-based interventions that encourage and prioritise cycling as a climate-friendly mode of transport, and a tool for greater equity.
With these and other initiatives, we aim to enhance knowledge and awareness among policymakers, decision-makers, and practitioners, contributing to increased physical activity and better health. Furthermore, the strong emphasis on underserved communities and developing economies is a testament to our common belief in cycling as an accessible and inclusive solution to global health, equity, and environmental challenges.
Stay tuned for more updates on the exciting activities we have in store for the year ahead!
