Cycle-Friendly Employer Consortium

The Cycle-Friendly Employer (CFE) Certification Framework establishes a European standard for bicycle-friendliness in the European workplace.

In 2017 organisations from Denmark, Austria, United Kingdom, Germany, Slovenia, Malta, Bulgaria, France, Croatia, Romania, Italy and the Netherlands, by building on the legacy of the Bike2Work project decided to establish the Cycle-Friendly Employer (CFE) Consortium (as of now CFE Consortium) in order to implement the CFE Certification Framework at national level. The aim is to facilitate, improve and standardise the certification process for employers at European level.

The CFE Certification is currently being implemented in sixteen countries across Europe, with a total of over 1950 employers already certified, collectively representing well over 1,3 million employees.

Why a CFE Certification Framework?

Certification is intended to help European employers improve the situation for employees that cycle to work and to offer acknowledgement and reward for their efforts. Cycling can contribute to the success of a business or organisation and supporting employees getting to work by cycling is a worthwhile investment. Studies show how physical activity and air quality have a big impact on personal well-being and environment, but also companies benefit of them: healthy employees are more productive and the ones who commute by bike are on time, more alert and less prone to stress.

How to join the CFE Consortium?

The annual CFE Call for Applications is an invitation for applications from organisations based in non-represented countries that commit to

  • implement the CFE Certification Framework at national level;
  • issue the CFE certification to cycle-friendly employers;
  • build a cycle-friendly employer culture at national level;
  • be part of the pan-European CFE Consortium.

We are accepting applications on a rolling basis.
