Through Velo-city 2018 article series we will be taking a closer look into sessions coordinated by ECF partner organizations and institutions and learn more about their main theme and participating speakers. The article series on Partner Sessions continue with UITP’s session: Providing Access by combining Public transport and Cycling.

UITP (International Association of Public Transport), a long-standing partner of ECF in the sustainable transport world, is the only worldwide network to bring together all public transport stakeholders and all sustainable transport modes.

The session will focus on the crucial role that cities play as engines of the economy, as places of connectivity, creativity and innovation. The ability to access – in the spatial sense – jobs, education, health services, cultural events and other services is a key factor of social inclusion.  By coordinating Cycling and Public Transport policies, cities contribute to providing greater accessibility but certain barriers need to be overcome: governance and institutional fragmentation issues, building mutual understanding, financing etc. In a nutshell, this stimulating session will take a look at how common approaches can lead to better accessibility.

The UITP session will feature exceptional speakers such as:

  • Richele Cabral Concalves, Urban Mobility Director, FETRANSPOR, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
  • Caroline Cerfortaine, Senior Manager, UITP, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
  • Joubert Fortes Flores Filho, Senior Advisor, METRO RIO, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
  • Harald Zwetkoff, President, VIA QUATRO, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The UITP session is scheduled for Day 1 of Velo-city 2018; Tuesday 12th June 2018 at 15.10-16.10.
