The CFE Consortium opens a call for new members from non-represented countries to implement the CFE Certification Framework on national level.
The Cycle-Friendly Employer Certification Framework establishes a European standard for bicycle-friendliness in the European workplace. Now entering its third year of operation, the CFE Consortium has expanded its representation across Europe, welcoming four new members in 2018 and two more in 2019. The certification is currently being implemented in fifteen countries across Europe, with a total of more than 200 employers already certified as Cycle-Friendly. Implementation of the CFE Certification Framework is managed by national coordinators -members- with the support and guidance of the CFE Consortium. Apply now and become national coordinator!

Why a CFE certification framework?

Certification is intended to help European companies improve the situation for employees that cycle to work and to offer acknowledgement and reward for their efforts. Cycling can contribute to the success of a business or organisation and supporting employees getting to work by cycling is a worthwhile investment. Studies show how physical activity and air quality have a big impact on personal well-being and environment, but also companies benefit of them: healthy employees are more productive and the ones who commute by bike are on time, more alert and less prone to stress.

Why implement the CFE certification framework at national level?

Implementation of the CFE Certification Framework offers a clear opportunity to empower NGOs and cycling associations. The certification process will be managed by national coordinators with the support and guidance of the CFE Consortium. This is an exciting business opportunity for the next 3 years not to be missed! Eleven ECF members are already part of the CFE Consortium.

CFE Consortium Members meet in Brussels, October 2019

Background

In 2017 organisations from Denmark, Austria, United Kingdom, Germany, Slovenia, Malta, Bulgaria, France, Croatia, Romania, Italy and the Netherlands, building on the legacy of the Bike2Work project decided to establish the Cycle-Friendly Employer Certification Consortium (as of now CFE Consortium) in order to implement the CFE Certification Framework at national level. The European Cyclists’ Federation is the Secretariat of the CFE Consortium. The CFE Certification Framework establishes a European standard for bicycle-friendly companies, by helping employers improve the situation for employees that cycle to work. A Long-Term Management Agreement was established by founding members of the CFE Consortium to provide a solid basis for the implementation on the trans-national level and an opportunity for further developments in order to:

  • build a cycle-friendly employer culture at European level;
  • implement the CFE Certification Framework at European level, beyond the countries represented in the Bike2Work Consortium;
  • promote the CFE Certification Framework;
