The "Association Française pour le développement des Véloroutes et des Voies Vertes" is present in 15 regions and 43 "départements" (counties) via a network of local associations which are often cycling groups (FUBicy urban cyclists and FFCT cycle tourists) but also include FFRS in-line skaters or independant groups. They all work to promote waymarked cycle routes and greenways in their area.
The national office, which is based in Toulouse, coordinates and stimulates this network.

The AF3V is run by 5 directors and a 15-member governing board.
Short Summary

TheAF3V is an association that promotes the development of waymarked cycle routes and greenways in France.

- The AF3V encourages national and local authorities to create high quality waymarked cycle routes and greenways which are connected to form a network. Our delegations thus represent user-groups at numerous meetings.

- The AF3V coordinates the requests of all users and is in regular contact with their federations: urban cyclists, cycle tourists, the disabled, in-line skaters, walkers.

- The AF3V centralises information and makes it accessible to the public:

  • The www.af3v.org website lists all waymarked cycle routes and greenways in France (in English and French), and offers a description of each itinerary. This information is validated by visits to the route, photos, links towards extra information and users’ descriptions. More than 200 routes are listed at present and the descriptions are partially translated into English.

  • The AF3V guide book is published every two years. The most recent edition ("Guide touristique des Véloroutes et Voies Vertes de France", June 2006) describes 150 routes. Price: 6 plus postage. Available from the AF3V and  www.cartovelo.com
  • The AF3V organizes the annual National Greenway Day in coordination with European Greenway Day and European Mobility Week. In 2006 our associations ran 29 events.
