| The four border regions of the South Baltic are all outer regions of their respective countries. The new political situation and the closeness of these regions have meant that close collaboration has grown in a natural way. The border regions of Bornholm and Southeast Skĺne have collaborated closely since 1980. In 1995, the collaboration was extended to include the German island of Rügen and Swinoujscie. At this stage the new alliance adopted the title of Four Corners. |
