| With its 550 km network of cycle-tracks, the new cycle-path system in Mittelholstein provides access to the landscape between Hamburg and neighbouring Denmark. Hence this large circular tour links the towns of Rendsburg, Eckernförde, Kiel, Plön, Neumünster and Hohenwestedt. Sights along the route include the historic townhalls in Rendsburg and Neumünster, the North Sea-Baltic Canal, the busiest shipping channel in the world, the fishing-port of Eckernförde and the regional capital on the Firth of Kiel. Numerous connecting routes also encourage individual day-trips. The Mittelholstein cycle-path system merges smoothly with the network of cycle tracks in the Danish holiday region of Funen. Cycle-tracks are mostly surfaced and separated from other road-traffic. Stretches of the route on the Baltic also include stages beside rivers and lakes. A „top-info guide“ provides important information on the cycle-path system, cyclist-friendly accommodation and connections with local public transport. It costs 3.53 € (6.90 DM) and also includes a gift-pack worth more than 50 €, containing coupons, reduced entrance-fees and discounts at various food-outlets |
