The starting point of the route is the region's capital, Jyväskylä, a lively university city with a wide range of attractions and museums that are really worth a visit. The route passes through typical Central Finnish terrain complete with hills, valleys and lakes.
The first part of the cycle route from Jyväskylä to Jämsä includes quite large variations in height challenging ascents and descents, demanding ascents and descents, and in places follows busy highway 9, so this section is most appropriate for experienced cyclists. On the other hand the varying hilly terrain is really Central Finland at its most beautiful and best. The second part of the route from Jämsä via Petäjävesi back to Jyväskylä varies less in height and the traffic on highway 23 is much quieter. |
