AIT stands for "Alliance Internationale de Tourisme". Every year a big bicycle tourism week, "The International AIT bicycle rally", is organised within the framework of AIT. In Previous years it has taken place in France (1998), Denmark (1999), Belgium (2000), Poland (2001) and Portugal (2002).
The organisers plan the routes that the participants will follow. These routes will be clearly marked and will follow tarmac roads with little traffic. In addition the participants will be given a map. There will be routes suggestion for every day of the event; these will have different distances, 40-50 km, 70-80 km and 120-140 km. During the whole week the base will be at one place, in Svendborg the "Landsstævneplads", where there will be an info-centre, accomodation and other activities.
The participants can camp at the "Landsstævneplads", but you can, too, have your accomodation at hotels, youth hostel or private accomodation within a radius of 3 Km. from the "Landsstævneplads".
The 56th AIT rally, in 1999, was organised by Dansk Cyklist Forbund ("Danish Bicycle Federation"). Here 1100 people from 16 European countries participated. So far there have been 59 AIT rallies; the AIT rally in Svendborg 2003 will be the 60th. |
