A cycling holiday along the Vestfjord route is an unforgettable experience. New, breathtaking sights appear around every bend. The Vestfjord route includes Bodø and Kjerringøy, Steigen and Engeløya, Hamarøy, the Lofoten Islands, Raftsund and Værøy. The route is partially signposted. If you enjoy peace and quiet away from tourists and heavy traffic we recommend Steigen, Hamarøy and Raftsund.
The routes generally follow the coast with few uphill sections. Some sections are gravelled. There is little traffic in Raftsund and Steigen. Heavy traffic along the E10 in The Lofoten Islands in July. Mountain bikes not necessary. Express boat from Tårnvik to Nordfold. Express boat from Bodø to Helnessund, Nordskot or Bogøy. Express boat from Bogøy to Skutvik. Express boat or ferry from Skutvik to Svolvær. Bike ferry from Ballstad to Nusfjord. Ferry from Moskenes to Værøy and Bodø.
The routes in Raftsund and Steigen are suitable for children on their own bikes. Narrow roads and heavy traffic make the Svolvær-Å section unsuitable for children. |
