| The internet page www.rheinradweg.net on the Rhine Cycle Route/Rijnfietsroute of the Lower Rhine Tourism Agency Ltd (TAN) in Kalkar has already been visited by 24,000 recreational cyclists. Remarkable, since the page only went online in spring 2005. With the GPS supported cycle tour offer in the German/Dutch border area, between Duisburg, Nijmegen and Arnhem, the TAN has particularly taken cyclists into view, who besides their passion for cycling are also interested in history, culture and health. The package deals take them on a thrilling journey through time along one of the largest European waterways. The 151 kilometre route from Nijmegen to Rheinberg reveals history from the Romans up to the Prussians in the Rhineland. On the 216 kilometre circuit to the German Hanseatic League the cyclists become immersed in the history of the town alliance. The routes can be followed with GPS equipment, which can be hired from the TAN. The Rhine Cycle Route is promoted by the EU through the programme InterReg IIIA of the Euregio Rhine-Waal as well as by funds of the North Rhine Westphalia Ministry for the Economy, Small Businesses and Energy and by funds of Gelderland Province - provided by the Ministry of Economics. |
