Germany´s national bicycle club and the Federal Environmental Agency select the most bicycle-friendly municipalities.
Münster, Bocholt, and Erlangen are Germany´s most bicycle-friendly cities in their size category, with Münster leading the way. This is the result of a survey about bicycles and cycling conducted by the Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad Club (ADFC) and the German branch of Friends of the Earth (BUND), who polled 8,000 citizens in the fall of 2003. Although conditions have improved in the past few years in most cities, a majority of citizens rate their cities as "satisfactory" to "inadequate". At the event launching the Federal Environmental Agency (UBA)-sponsored project to relieve the environment by increasing cycling traffic (Umweltentlastung durch mehr Radverkehr) which was held in Potsdam today, Dr. Thomas Holzmann, UBA Vice President, and Project Manager Dr. Wolfgang Richter of the ADFC awarded prizes - bicycle stalls made by the Orion Bausysteme company. |
