| In the area where the states of Hessen, Rheinland-Pfalz and Baden-Württemberg meet the Welterbe Cycle Route takes you past three places worth visiting classified by UNESCO as world heritage sites: The former monastery at Lorsch which was a European centre of culture in the early Middle Ages, the cathedral at Speyer - burial place of the Salierkaiser and masterpiece of Romanesque church architecture - and the monastery at Maulbronn which was once a Cistercian abbey and is the largest fully preserved monastery north of the Alps. This cycle route is shown on the recently published map "Rhein-Neckar Pfalz" (Pietruska-Verlag). On a scale of 1:50,000 the map opens up to cyclists the entire Rhine-Neckar region and large areas of Pfalz between Odenwald and Pfälzerwald, which is almost entirely flat.
