02.11.2004Indonesia: Cycling in Bali
Bicycles are called "push bike" and they are so many bicycles in Bali. The push bike was the established from at transport long before the roods became choked with motor bikes and fumes. There are numerous places renting out bicycles, reasonable mountain bike with gears, in good condition and in full working order. Prices are usually negotiable, rent for a longer period of time and you should be able to get a favourable discount. Some of the adventure tour companies after being driven inland up to a very high start point, you will then spend several hours cruising downhill through some of the most amazing scenery. This tour winds through the traditional villages, jungle, visiting local fantastic temples, coasting down quiet roads whit same views of rice paddy terraces, farming areas, tropical tree and much more. Riding time recommended using sunscreen.

You can drive around Bali Island lonely, but better with guiding and friendliest of all places you visit. There is not much written on bicycling in Bali. One of important drive on the left hand side of the road. Roads are narrow (no shoulders) and mopeds are all over the place. Locals for commuting however use bikes. Honking is a normal driver habit. A car honks to let you know he is be side you. Learn not to get rattled. With the amount traffic, you get to learn to drive in close proximity to other vehicle. Some times, all that separates you form the other vehicle is their side mirror. Although it seems like chaos, there is mutual respect among all vehicles, bikes included. It is the humidity that makes riding a little harder and will dogs any mere. That all if you riding in main road, you can use alternative or quiet roads.
