The unique Drau cycling trail follows the river through untouched nature landscapes in the heart of the Dolomites, leading past beautiful little towns and villages to the renowned Carinthian lake district. Start the cycling tour in Sillian (Osttirol) and make your way through Pustertal valley, the historic town of Lienz and the ´Carinthian Gate´ towards the upper Drautal valley. Pedaling past Spittal and the Renaissance Porcia Castle you reach Paternion Castle and get finally to Villach where you make a change and take the MS Landskron in order to experience an exciting boat trip, approaching Faaker See lake and Wörthersee lake. The cycling trail passes along Rosental valley up to Ferlach located next to the marvelous Tscheppaschlucht gorge or the Saager Castle. Stein is the starting point for an adventurous outing to Klopeiner See lake. The cycling path continues down to Neudenstein birds´ paradise, leading to the huge Drau water reservoir and Völkermarkt. Then the trail converges with the Jauntal valley path and leads to Lavamünd, starting point of several cycling trails to the spa region in southern Carinthia. |
