06.09.2005Bavaria: Via Bavarica Tyrolensis through Upper Bavaria and Tyrol
225 kilometres through remarkable cultural scenery in Bavaria and Tyrol: From the starting point at the German Museum in Munich, the cycle route Via Bavarica Tyrolensis leads either along the river Isar via Wolfratshausen, Bad Tölz, Lenggries and Sylvenstein lake or via Holzkirchen, Tegernsee along lake Achensee to the Inn valley. As a round tour, it is recommended to ride from east to west, as a straight route the Via Bavarica Tyrolensis is the ideal connection between the two major cycle routes, the Isar Cycle Route and the Inn Cycle Route. The stretch, though, is not without gradients, and it is unsuitable for journeys with child trailers or small children. But, for example, along the lakes or the Isar long flat stretches invite those riding for pleasure to enjoy the Alpine foothills panorama. The numerous cyclist-friendly inns and snack stations are, by the way, outstandingly well prepared for cycle tourists. In Lenggries one should plan an overnight stay and spend an afternoon in the high-wire garden of the outdoor hotel „Jäger von Fall“. A climbing outing under professional guidance promises completely new thrilling experiences. In good weather a ride on to the Brauneck (mountain) by cable car is very rewarding – for the beautiful view alone: Here almost the entire cycle route from Munich to lake Achensee can be followed from above. A visit to the Tyrolean Mineral Oil Experience Museum at lake Achensee in Pertisau is also worth a detour.
