The Eifel belongs to the most popular bicycle touring areas in Germany. With the family-friendly Rur Bank Cycle Route a further attractive route was added. Cycle tourists can cover over 170 kilometres on mostly separate bike and farm tracks from the source in the Hohe Venn in Belgium through the districts of Aachen, Dueren and Heinsberg up to the Maas confluence in the Dutch Roermond. The route leads through Monschau, past the Rur reservoirs and via Heimbach, Nideggen, Kreuzau, Dueren, Juelich, Linnich through the District of Heinsberg to Roermond. It proceeds downriver and there are only a few short gradients to overcome. From the area of the source of the Rur up to the confluence universal signposting, a leaflet and a detailed guide book for precise tour preparation are available for cyclists. |
