Mountain-bike tour of rail trails, tracks and minor roads amidst rocky gorges, sweeping plains and castellated peaks. 8 days moving-on, from 40 steep and stony km to 80 flat and smooth, with 3 days to relax, sightsee or ride up a mountain! 9 nights half-board, 3 nights B&B.
This is a repeat, with a few improvements, of the 2005 CTC tour of the Vías Verdes (VV) - the network of old railway trails threading the mountains north of Alicante. These will be linked using other tracks, paths and minor roads to explore the \'Real Spain\' that is only a few miles away but a world apart from the Costa Blanca. A mountain-bike will be required, but you will not have to be an expert mountain-biker. Most of the tracks are good, occasionally stony, and there will be time to walk any too steep to ride. Your efforts will be rewarded with views over hillsides terraced with blossomy almond trees, white-washed villages sleeping below clifftop castles, sweeping plains and orchards heavy with ripe oranges.
