In response to the publication by the European Commission of the Road Safety Programme aimed at halving fatalities occured in traffic, the ECF reacted by issuing a press release. "The European Cyclists' Federation (ECF) wishes to commend the European Commission for the renewed commitment to improve safety on European roads, as published its Communication of 20 July. Setting again the objective of halving road deaths for the 2010-2020 period is an ambitious goal. Moreover, ECF is happy to see the Commission's change in policies by backing also targets on injuries being set at the European level as well, something the European Cyclists' Federation has been strongly in favour of. However, ECF regrets that rate-based targets on cyclists' casualties have not been withheld in the "policy recommendations."
