01.11.2005Cycling in the South African Summer
The summer season is truly magical in Cape Town with crisp early mornings and beautiful sunrises. And this is only the middle of the week. Weekends are even better with almost carfree roads as cyclists are able to descend on the roads and mountains from 05h30 onwards.

This is what makes summer so fantastic, the generous light time enables riders to get their training in before work, leaving them to spend their evenings on the beach or with the families. There are few things better than passing bumper to bumper morning traffic on your way to work. Getting envious glances or even the odd wave from motorists who wish they could be you looking so pleased with the world.

Yes,we are a peculiar breed of people. If you don´t cycle you won´t understand the joy of preparing for a race at an hour when some people only go to bed. Or skipping on dessert because you savour beating your riding partner on the next hill. Or lying on a sunbed with your cycling clothes on so you´d be the first in your riding group with a cycling tan this summer. And you´re proud of it! So don´t be surprised if a non-cyclist raises his eyebrows at you when you casually mention that you´ll be doing the Double Century event this year and that you are so happy they have increased the distance to 212km. They won´t understand that we live to ride...

For this reason we focus on YOU, and the Double Century endurance event this month, with advice on correct nutrition, hydration and recovery for the race. Visit the Mechanics page for our quick check up on your bike to ensure that it is in an excellent condition for this race. We know that whether you prefer tar, gravel or tarmac – you´ll always do it with passion.
