Romania has a special potential for cyclotourism, and mountain biking due to its favorable relief, and the natural and cultural tourism attractions.
Many of the Carpathians massifs are good for the mountain biking with different levels of difficulty from easy tracks on forest roads to the long ridge routes on dangerous paths with high difference of level. Some of the most interesting areas for mountain bikings are Bucovina, Neamt Area - Ceahlau ? Bicaz Gorge, Apuseni Mountains, the mountains between Olt and Jiu rivers, Banat Mountains. Among the rarities are the route on the ridges of Suhard, Rarau, Obcina Mestecanisului, Grohotis, Baiului, Platoul Bucegilor, Gilau-Muntele Mare, Vladeasa Mountains. Hard to forgett are Cerna, Frumoasei, Sadului, Lotrului, Ialomitei, Doftanei, Bascei Mari and Bascei Mici, Uzului, Somesului Rece valleys etc. We should not forget the Transalpine highway reaching the highest pass in Romania (Urdele, 2,147 m) or the roads who cross on the memorable passes that should be included in the record of any mountain biker: Jiu-Cerna, Valcan, Tartarau, Groapa Seaca, Curmatura Oltetului, Predelus, Boncuta. On the bike the highest peaks can be climbed: Cucurbata Mare (Bihor), Vladeasa and Muntele Mare, Mestecanis, Rarau, Ignis (Gutai), Retitis (Calimani), Lacauti (Vrancei), Penteleu, Omu (Bucegi), Semenic etc. |
