The bicycle lift tramp
Trondheim is the first city in the world with a lift specifially designed for cyclists. The bicycle lift, developed in Trondheim, goes up the steep hill Brubakken near Gamle Bybro (the old, wooden Town Bridge), and it takes you from the bridge and almost all the way up to the Kristiansen Fort. For test-runs you need a lift card and a bike. The lift card is available at the Tourist Information Office on the market square, or Sykkelbakka and Dromedar Kaffebar at the starting point of the lift.
The Trondheim city bicycle Trondheim has 300 bicycles available for locals and visitors to borrow, free of charge, for use in the town centre. The distinctive green bikes are parked in easy-to-spot stands at central locations in the city. The city bikes have a shopping basket and people calling them "the city centre´s shopping trolleys". To release the city bike from the stand, you insert a Norwegian 20-kroner coin into the bike lock. You´ll get the coin back later when you return the bike to one of the city-bike stands. The Tourism Information Office at the market square (Torget) can provide you more details about the city-bike sheme.
