The Danish Museum for Bicycles is the only museum in Scandinavia covering the technical development of bicycles in detail. The museum is established in a building erected in 1921 as residence for the Managing Director of the bicycle factory, »Jyden«.
The collection of bicycles, which is unparalleled, covers at the moment more than two hundred unique pieces - from the bicycle made of wood, through the velocipede, to the best known models of today. It contains thus examples of experiments with the bicycle as a way of propulsion during 150 years.
For almost a century man has made motor-assisted pedal cycles. The museum has a unique collection of these. Fore-most among the cycles with auxillary motor is the first one ever made in 1903. This cycle was acquired by the museum in 1996.
The collection also contains a very wide selection of accessories used with bicycles over the years. There is also a comprehensive collection of sewing machines starting as far back as the year 1850. In Denmark the cradle of the radio was standing in the workshop of the bicycle repairer. As a natural consequense the museum holds a comprehensive collection of old radios. The season runs from 1st of May to the end of September. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 17 p.m. |
