On a total of 27 kilometres the Festival Cycle Route in the district of Cham snakes through the romantic woods, meadows and hills of the Bavarian forest. It owes its name to the seven festival locations situated here. The start of the tour is at Falkenberg, where also the Falkenstein Cycle Route coming from Regensburg terminates. From here on it runs, accompanied by the river Mintrach, up 130 altitude metres, in order to enjoy the view onto Falkenstein Castle. Away from busy roads the cycle route leads through thinly populated, forest-rich territory via Michelsneukirchen onwards to Neuhaus. In the so-called „Theater auf der Burg“ [Theatre in the Castle] every year in July performances take place in the restored castle ruins that are well worth seeing. Beyond the 2,600 soul parish of Schorndorf the Festival Cycle Route leads through the nature protected Regen valley meadows, with their circa 240 threatened species of breeding and visiting birds, finally to Cham. In 1959 film director Bernhard Wicki shot in this over 1,000 year old trading town his anti-war film „Die Brücke“ [The Bridge] with the actors Volker Lechtenbrink, Günther Pfitzmann and Fritz Wepper. The festival locations Furth im Wald, Bad Kötzting, Rimbach, Waldmünchen or Rötz lie nearby. Tip: From Cham on cyclists can continue on the170 kilometre Regen Valley Cycle Route. Through Cham lead also the 22 kilometre Chamb Valley Cycle Route as well as the „Grünes Dach“ [Green Roof] Cycle Route with its 303 kilometres.
