The Altmühl valley nature park beckons with another cycle path: At the end of 2007 the Schambachtalbahn-Radweg [Schambach Valley Cycle Route] was opened. It connects scenic experience with regional railway history, as the route runs on the disused railway line between Ingolstadt and Riedenburg. Between 1904 and 1972 trains were running here over a distance of 36 kilometres. The tour leads along the Schambach valley and past romantic palaces and castles. In the small towns and historical places there are many sights and secluded resting places. At many stations information boards indicate local characteristics and railway history, additionally the boards show the course of the track with details on distance and elevation. Until spring 2008 signs should also be erected with details of places and distances along the Schambach Valley Railway Cycle Route. The cycle path is almost continuously asphalted and level. And it is a pretty link between the Danube Cycle Route and the Altmühl Valley Cycle Route.
