 | | | | Palaces, baroque churches, beer gardens, lush green landscapes and the Vils river: All this accompanies the cycle wanderer on the 88 kilometre Vilstalradweg [Vils Valley Cycle Route]. The river valley guides the cycle route with hardly any gradients mostly on little used side roads through southern Lower Bavaria. A green logo on a white background shows the way. From Vilsbiburg it leads to the 1200 year old town of Vilshofen. Here the Vils flows into the Danube. The route can be ridden in both directions. However, Aldersbach certainly entices cyclists from their saddle – regardless, as to which direction they come from: The Asam church of the Cistercian monastery „Mariä Himmelfahrt“ is certainly well worth a visit. Equally, the affiliated monastic brewery offers the tired cycle wanderer a solid supper. A brewery museum illustrates the local technique of brewing since the 13th century. Now a palatable Radlermaß [shandy] is due! The Vilstal lake near Reisbach, however, also promises cooling and refreshment. The brochure „Vilstalradweg“ is available free of charge from the address below, a map is contained in the „Niederbayerischer Radlspaß“ brochure (ten euro).
