 | | | | Not for nothing did the Holstein meadow land once have the sonorous name „Grüne Mitte Holsteins“ [Green Centre of Holstein]. How about exploring this ca. 800 square kilometre area by bicycle? With its extensive meadow landscapes, woodlands and grasslands this region lying 30 kilometres northwest of Hamburg is simply made for cycle trips. The Aukrug Experience Tour is only one of many possibilities to explore the land of the meadows by bike. The pottery town Kellinghusen, known for its artistically painted faience, is the beginning and end of the tour. From here it continues to Willenscharen, where the remains of a castle take tourists back to past times. Via Sarlhusen the route leads through the Aukrug Nature Park to the Boxberg hill, from where beckons the panoramic view across the meadow landscape. At the end, back in Kellinghusen, not only children can rampage on the woodland educational and experience trail. The 52 kilometre route can be excellently combined with other routes like, for example, the Oxen Trail and Monks’ Trail, as the complete cycle route network is interconnected.
