 | | | | Alpine panorama and medieval flair: Cycle travellers encounter numerous castles and palaces on the 190 kilometre Hohenzollern-Weg. From Esslingen in the Neckar valley near Stuttgart across the southwestern Swabian Alb to the western end of Lake Constance the route runs on mostly quiet and asphalted ways. If cyclists follow it through the well-wooded Schönbuch Nature Park to Bebenhausen, they can admire the former Cistercian monastery there with its impressive cloister. On it goes past the Wurmling chapel in the direction of Balingen. The optional extra on the wayside: The route offers again and again views of Hohenzollern Castle, enthroned above Hechingen and Bisingen. After a trip to the Schömberg reservoir one continues into airy heights of almost 1000 metres followed by a descent to the upper Danube valley. The East Route follows a direct path to Lake Constance, past Schloss Langenstein to Bodman-Ludwigshafen. Those infatuated by culture had better stay on the West Route: it leads to Singen, where the castle ruin of Hohenwinkel can be marvelled.
