As the third long-distance cycle route the „Vom Main zur Rhön“ route is certified by the ADFC [German Cyclists’ Federation]. The ADFC was able to award four of five possible stars: Assessed were signposting, surface quality, route guidance away from road traffic, and overnight accommodation. The round route leads over 263 kilometres mainly through Lower Franconia. It begins and ends in Gemünden on the Main Cycle Route. On low gradient river cycle paths it first runs from Gemünden via Hammelburg in the Rhön to Bad Kissingen. Between Bad Königshofen and Fladungen cyclists experience a tranquil region with many Franconian timber-framed houses and orchard meadows. Along the eastern slopes of the High Rhön and the Schwarzen Berge (Black Hills) the route leads at Bischhofsheim into the Sinn valley, and in the lower Sinn valley again into the holiday landscape Spessart-Main-Odenwald. Along the route bicycle tourists can stay overnight in 22 ADFC approved Bed & Bike establishments.
