If you encounter cyclists on penny farthings in the Spreewald, then these might be pupils from the penny farthing riding school at the cyclists’ barn guesthouse [“Radler-Scheune”] in Burg-Spreewald. In a three-day course, guests of the Bed & Bike enterprise can take their penny farthing riding test - and look at the world from a different perspective, namely from the saddle of the bikes with a 130 year tradition. After the first practice hours at dizzy heights the learner riders can relax on a canoe tour or by cycling through the Spreewald. Crowning glory: successful graduates of the penny farthing school receive their newly acquired rider’s licence during a barbecue. The pupils find accommodation at the guesthouse.
