06.06.2007North Rhine-Westphalia: Werse Cycle Route

How about a comfortable tour through lush greenery - for example, on the Werse Cycle Route, the gateway to the southern Münsterland region? The route which opened at the end of April promises a varied cycling experience over 122 kilometres. From Rheda-Wiedenbrück via Oelde, Beckum, Ahlen, Drensteinfurt to Münster thirty-four information panels on the wayside and in the towns provide valuable and thrilling details about the region.

By a short breather at the “story-telling stations” equipped with lookout towers, tables and benches cyclists can lose themselves in the expanse of Münsterland. Strength regained? Then back on the saddle - the Werse Cycle Route leads along Ems, Werse and Lippe through the three river region. Meadow landscape entices to dreaming, the State Garden Shows in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Hamm and Oelde score with natural variety and the Maximilian Park in Hamm has an ace up its sleeve: Here stands the “largest elephant in the world” - built on the occasion of the State Garden Show 1984 this glass and steel construction is 35 metres high and since then the emblem of both the park and town. Cycle route with connection: The Werse Route can be combined with the Ems Auen Cycle Route to form a circuit. And with the Emscher Park Cycle Route via Münster you gain access to the entire Ruhr District.
