Here where no mountain blocks the view, the eye roams over bog landscapes and quiet watercourses: “Here” is the Cuxland, through which the Elbe Weser Cycle Route leads from Otterndorf to Bremen. The 120 kilometre tour starts where the Elbe enters the North Sea. The cycle route, signposted on both sides, first leads through the North Sea resort Otterndorf, where cyclists gaze at centuries old architecture and romantic lanes in admiration, and then through the Sietland. The “land of watercourses” can be experienced on the 5.7 kilometre circuit of the bog train. The route runs between lakes, fields and meadows, where historic monuments, watermills and windmills await discovery to the mud health spa Bad Bederkesa. On the way to Beverstedt (beaver town) travellers find historic relics like old graves. Through small villages with thatched farmhouses it continues via Kirchwistedt and Basdahl to Bremervörde. Splendid villas remind one of the prosperity of the town. Finally, the cycle route leads via Worpswede and Lilienthal through the Wümme lowland nature area to Bremen.
