The ECF delivered the ECF Statement ‘Liveable cities are cycling cities !’ to the European Commission on the proposed Green Paper on Urban Transport. The title says in a nutshell what is explained in the statement: cycling should be a mainstay of urban transport for many reasons – liveability of cities, climate change, costs and benefits of investments, land use and health. Two other for cyclists very important position papers were delivered by the ETRA (European Twowheel Retailers' Association; see at http://www.etra-eu.com/newsitem.asp?type=1&id=7894862 and COLIBI (Representing the European Bicycle Industry - www.colibi.com) and COLIPED (Association of the European Two-Wheeler Parts' & Accessories' Industry - www.coliped.com).
At the stakeholder conference 4th of June in Brussels European Commission Vice-President J. Barrot announced that the commission will publish the Green Paper with ‘options’ in September 2007 and will ask for comments then on this paper. In winter 2007/2008 and spring 2008 there will be a consultation process and debates on ‘actions’. After that process the commission will publish an action plan in autumn 2008.
