The tour starts from Liepāja one of the biggest and most beautiful cities of Latvia to where you will arrive by train after an overnight in Riga. From Liepāja you will start a bicycle ride through the territory which has been closed for 50 years during the Soviet times and controlled by the military. There are coastal forests, marshes and, above all, solitary sandy beaches. Further you will see a unique steep bank of the sea, stretching for 10km, fishermen villages once populated by the Livs a nationality which is a minority now and striving to maintain their identity. The road leads through the Slītere national park to the Cape of Kolka where the waves of the open sea cross with the waves of the Gulf of Riga and form a narrow sand strip far into the sea. Moving along the shoreline of the gulf, you will stop at the lake Engure for some bird watching from towers. Wild horses are grazing in the meadows by the lake. At Mērsrags, there is another former military basis of the Soviet army the abandoned buildings illustrate the life during the Soviet time.
