Touring cyclists can discover relics of the history of industry and technology in eastern Upper Franconia: On the new route "Technikgeschichte und verwunschene Täler“ [Technological history and enchanted valleys]. It leads cyclists over ca. 120 kilometres from medieval Kronach to the “Europäischen Industriemuseum für Porzellan“ [European Industrial Museum of Porcelain] in Selb-Plößberg. Technological history from mining to porcelain production lies en route and can thus be experienced first hand. Cycle tourists ride from Kronach along the southern foothills of the Franconian Forest to Hermes and then through the Rodach and Fischbach valleys. After Hermes the route runs on an educational mining trail where at Kupferberg the corresponding museum awaits visitors. Two more museums lie in route proximity: The German Steam Engine Museum at Neuenmarkt and the Upper Franconian Farm Museum at Kleinlosnitz. Beyond Weißenstadt rail track cycling to Kirchenlamitz takes place. The route finally leads through the Selb forest to Selb where the porcelain manufacturers Hutschenreuther, Rosenthal as well as Villeroy and Boch have their seats. Here one can admire the biggest coffee-pot in the world and the porcelain museum in Selb-Plößberg. On the way quite a number of altitude metres must be overcome, cyclists therefore should be quite fit.
