| In 1648 the Westphalian Peace Treaty was negotiated after the Thirty Years' War, for this mounted messengers thundered to and fro between Münster and Osnabrück – today the Peace Route is a cycle route, which since May is signposted in both directions and can also be cycled as a circuit. The symbol of the peace rider reliably points the way across the flat park landscape of the Münster District and the more demanding mountain stages in the foothills of the Teutoburg forest. The new cycle touring map "Friedensroute” [Peace Route] is a combination of map and cycle touring guide at the scale of 1:50,000. It can be obtained for 9.95 Euro at Münsterland Touristik, the tourist offices along the route and in bookshops. At www.friedensroute.de one finds a route overview, stage information, service offers and much more. |
