Cyclists can enjoy cycling and at the same time experience art and nature on the new Sculpture Cycle Route in the Neckar Odenwald District, Baden-Wurttemberg. Three art academies were involved in the project "Sculptures along the Cycle Path - Art in the Landscape" which produced 18 quite different sculptures: multi-legged mythical creatures or a sweeping stranded vehicle, for example. The 77 kilometre art circuit between Seckach, Osterburken, Adelsheim, Ravenstein and Rosenberg is a new tourist attraction promoted by the Baden-Wurttemberg Ministry for Nutrition and Rural Areas and by the European Union. But not only sculptures line the way. The route is also rich in history: in Osterburken stand the walls of a Roman fort, in Ravenstein a Renaissance castle, in Buchen a dripstone cave was only discovered in 1971 and nearby Osterburken lies Germany’s only medieval leisure park: here you can experience market days and jousting tournaments or watch the town being built using traditional craft techniques (take note of events, www.adventon.de). The route is partly asphalted and partly runs on woodland paths. From April onwards the route and the sculptures shall be signposted. |
