Nature preservation and mountain biking are not opposites: In the Rhoen UNESCO Biosphere Reserve nature has priority. The preservation of this nature area is one of the aims of the reserve. To enable visitors to see a lot of nature without impairing it, the administration of the Biosphere Reserve, the Nature Park and the ADFC Rhoen-Grabfeld created an extensive network of mountain-bike routes that shall guide the visitors. It consists of two main routes each more than 100 kilometres long and a large number of target routes, which are signposted in both directions with details to destination and distance. Good prospects: Not only do they reward the summit conquerors on the tours, also the service has much to offer. Where it is not possible to cycle anymore, one can continue on foot - for this there are Bike&Hike offers. On tours lasting several days one can stay overnight in the mountain huts of the Rhoen Club. The tour offers for mountain bikers and for “nature and landscape bikers” have in recent years led to an increase in visitor numbers in the Franconian Rhoen. Still, conservation violations and conflicts with hikers have largely failed to occur. |
